Thoracic Pain
 |
Due to multiple rib
attachments, the thoracic spine is more stable
and has less injuries than other regions of the
spine. Despite the added structural support, thoracic
pain still exists and can radiate to the sides
and around to the chest. Pain in this region is
most often related to the displacement of disc
fluid or malalignment of the ribs. |
| |
|
|
| Our treatment focuses
on specific exercises to eliminate the fluid in
the outer portion of the disc. Often this can
be accomplished with home exercises. Occasionally,
specialized therapist techniques or utilization
of specialized equipment such as the REPEX or
Traction is required. Once the disc has stabilized,
re-education of weakened muscles of the spine
utilizing the MedX and core strengthening is essential
for pain reduction and avoiding re-injury. Rib
alignment is generally accomplished with therapist
techniques. |

|
Response to treatment
in the thoracic spine is often very rapid. Restoration
of normal disc dynamics can be accomplished commonly
in 1-3 treatments. When this is followed up with
isolated strengthening, the results can be very
impressive. |
