Meet our team members:

Owner:  Bret Adams, PT, MPT, ATC, CSCS

Hometown: Boise, Idaho

Degrees:  Masters of Physical Therapy (Idaho State University) and Bachelors of Exercise Science (Brigham Young University)

Why Physical Therapy?:  Bret has always been intrigued by the miraculous human body and how it functions. When looking at possible careers, he knew that he wanted to be a physical therapist directly involved in helping people. Having the chance to experience physical therapy as a patient due to a knee injury and a back injury, Bret discovered the perfect profession to fit his interests. Bret loves to see people improve their lives.  

Bret and his team are always advancing their knowledge in the profession to keep up on the latest research and techniques that provide the best results.  He respects every patient and communicates the benefits of health and wellness so clear that patients understand and recover successfully. 

Specialties:  Bret has a wide range of certifications including McKenzie Mechanical Diagnosis & Therapy, Athletic Training, Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and is an ASTYM Provider.  As a physical therapist for more than 20 years, he is an expert in back pain and neck pain.

Hobbies:  Bret loves spending time with his 3 children.  You can also find him doing anything and everything in the great outdoors from biking, hiking, rafting, snowmobiling, and golfing.  Bret also never misses an episode of American Idol!


Dr. Jeffrey R. Taylor, PT, DPT

Hometown:  Fruitland, Idaho

Degrees:  Doctorate of Physical Therapy (Idaho State University) and Bachelor of Science (Boise State University) 

Following Boise State University, Jeff moved to Pocatello, Idaho to pursue a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at Idaho State University (ISU). While at ISU, Jeff had the opportunity to focus his clinical rotations on outpatient orthopedics. Jeff graduated from ISU in 2012 at the top of his class with a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Jeff is certified in athletic training and is a certified ASTYM provider.

Why Physical Therapy?:  Jeff enjoys the unique opportunity to help individuals return to a high functional status and improve their quality of life by participating in physical therapy.  Jeff's patients range between the ages of 8-97 years old.  Jeff is kind, patient, and truly cares about the patients' well-being.  Jeff sees patients with injuries, from pre-operative and post operative physical therapy in hip fracture recovery and total knee replacements.

Specialties:  Physical Therapy

Hobbies:  As an Idaho native, Jeff enjoys all outdoor activities, such as, hiking, fishing, hunting, camping, and rafting. Jeff also tries to stay active with participation in recreational sports, cardiovascular training, and resistance training.


Dr. Matthew R. Candau, PT, DPT, MPhtySt, MTC

Hometown:  Danville, California

Degrees:  Doctor of Physical Therapy (Evidence in Motion Institute for Health Professionals), Master of Physiotherapy Studies (University of Queensland, Australia) and Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, Rehabilitation Science, Health, Exercise Science and Lifestyle Management (University of Hawaii at Manoa)

Why Physical Therapy?:  Matt has been an athlete all his life, from playing competitive golf in High School, to Football in College and Rugby at the University and Semi-Professional levels both in the UK and Australia. Throughout his sporting career, Matt spent a lot of time with various PT’s who were all doing everything they could to keep him doing what he loved. This is where his respect for and interest in Physical Therapy started. Matt loves working with people and helping them succeed.

Matt is Australian educated and was trained in McKenzie, Maitland and Mulligan techniques by some of the fields leading researchers and practitioners. His diverse background and personal experience with injury allows him to connect with his patients so that they can work together to achieve a common goal.

Specialties:  Matt is a Certified Manual Therapist, which means he has undergone an additional year and a half of specialized training in providing hands-on manual therapy techniques.

Hobbies:  Matt loves to do most anything that involves being outdoors, especially hunting, golfing, skiing and camping. Matt also enjoys spending time with his wife, Emily, and is excited to call Idaho home!


Dr. Kristen Folger, PT, DPT

Hometown:  Salem, Oregon

Degrees:  Doctorate of Physical Therapy (A.T.  Still University, Mesa, Arizona)  and Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science (Boise State University)

Why Physical Therapy?:  Kristen has always enjoyed helping others achieve their goals and she wanted a career that would allow her to make a positive difference in people's lives on a day to day basis.  She was first exposed to PT following her mother's hip replacement surgery and from there her interested in the medical field took off.  Physical Therapy seemed like the perfect fit due to her athletic background and her eagerness to help others achieve an active lifestyle.

Specialities:  Physical Therapy

Hobbies:  Playing with her dog, Hailey, including fetch at any of the local parks or taking her to the river to swim.  Road trips all over the country; her goal is to visit all 50 states.  Participating in any and all recreational sports and staying active with cardiovascular fitness and resistance training.


Dr. Devyn R. Dodge, PT, DPT

Hometown:  Lancaster, California

Degrees:  Doctorate of Physical Therapy (Azusa Pacific University) and Bachelor of Science in Physical Education with an emphasis in Sports Physiology/Physical Therapy (Biola University)

Why Physical Therapy?:  Devyn has been an active person her entire life as a competitive gymnast, cheerleader and soccer player with hobbies such as snowboarding, wakeboarding and riding motorcycles. Her love for the medical field started while volunteering at a hospital in high school. During an internship in college she got her first taste of the physical therapy world, and after only a few weeks she knew she had found her calling in life.  Physical Therapy is the perfect blend of the medical field that helps people get out and do what they love pain free. Nothing beats the joy of seeing a person’s face when they reach their goals. Whether small goals like first steps after surgery, or big goals like an athlete returning to the field, every day is a day closer to reaching that goal.  

Specialties:  Physical Therapy, Devyn is also a certified ASTYM provider.

Hobbies:  Devyn loves to do anything that involves spending time with her husband and two daughters. Whether that’s camping, boating or riding bikes during the summer, to snowboarding, snowmobiling or sledding during the winter.


Dr. Tyler Haskell, PT, DPT

Hometown:  American Falls, ID

Degrees:  Doctor of Physical Therapy (Idaho State University) and Bachelor of Exercise Science (Idaho State University)

Why Physical Therapy?:  As a high school student, Tyler became more familiar with the human body from an anatomy class. He enjoyed the class very much and from there, he only became more fascinated by the human body and became more engaged in physical activity. It was then that Tyler knew he needed to puruse a career that involved the human body. Physical therapy was one way to incorporate that passion. Working as a Physical Therapist has allowed him to make a difference in the lives of others by helping them return to the things they love.

Hobbies:  Tyler enjoys spending time with his wife and 4 kids. He loves anything outdoors, including hiking, camping, fishing, and running. He will try anything once!


Dr. Steve Oswald, PT, DPT, PES

Hometown:  Mountain Home, ID

Degrees:  Doctor of Physical Therapy (Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions) and Bachelors of Health Sciences & Biology (College of Idaho)

Why Physical Therapy?:  Steve has always been fascinated by the human body and movement. From a very young age, he knew he wanted to be in the medical field. Steve's tipping point with selecting physical therapy as a profession was after his own rehabilitation experience, following a basketball injury that resulted in an ACL reconstruction. His personal experience with physical therapy was his catalyst for a passion in helping others improve their life experiences through optimizing movement quality and reducing their pain.

Specialties:  Steve is a Perfomance Enhancement Specialist (PES) through NASM; he has a strong background in fitness and performance training, helping transition athletes and weekend-warriors back into activities they may be having difficulty performing. Steve also has additional training in manual therapy through Evidence in Motion. 

Hobbies:  Steve is an active outdoorsman, frequently hiking, mountain biking, camping, backpacking during the summer, while enjoying skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing during the winter months. Steve is also an avid sports fan, especially college football (GO BOISE STATE!). You can typically find Steve glued to a TV watching football, or in attendance of a game most Saturdays from September to December.


Kelli Duren, PTA

Hometown:  Soda Springs, Idaho

Degrees:  Associates of Applied Science in Physical Therapist Assistant and also Massage Therapy (Idaho State University College of Technology)

Why Physical Therapy?:  Kelli has been active in sports growing up playing everything from basketball, volleyball, track & field, and softball. In 8th grade, Kelli tore her ACL playing basketball requiring surgery and rehab following. She loved the idea of being able to help people achieve the same success she got from her therapy and help others get back to doing what they enjoy. Kelli completed the Massage Therapy program in 2009 and worked part-time as a MT while completing the PTA program. She became active in bodybuilding and powerlifting within the past few years which has helped her in more ways than just strength training but also educating herself and others on how to avoid future injuries.

Specialties:  Physical and Massage Therapy

Hobbies:  Weightlifting, competing in powerlifting, mountain biking, skiing, camping, hiking, and spending time with her husband and pets.


Tim Rowe, PTA

Hometown:  Sedro-Woolley WA

Degree:  Associate in Applied Science in Physical Therapy (Green River College)

Why Physical Therapy?:  Tim has always been very physically active and amazed by the human body’s ability to heal and learn to adapt in the face of adversity. He is passionate about helping people get back to doing what they love, living a pain-free life, while utilizing the latest research in manual therapy and exercises for strength and movement. He believes that his diverse background and personal experience with injury allows him to provide personalized treatment for each patient in a compassionate and effective way.

Specialties:  Tim specializes in Lumbo-sacral dysfunction, post rotator cuff repair rehab, ARTs, METs, and rehab following joint replacement.

Hobbies:  Tim loves kayaking, playing his guitar and banjo, running, biking, snowboarding, camping, spending time with his wife Megan and two daughters Caitlin and Claire


 

Miranda McReynolds, Therapy Trainer

Hometown:  Boise, Idaho

Degree:  Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Exercise Science (Boise State University)

Why Physical Therapy?:  Miranda has participated in sports as long as she can remember and has a passion for physical fitness and team atmospheres.  She enjoys helping people and wants to be able to get them back to enjoying their lifestyles they had prior to their injury.  Miranda is fascinated by how the systems of the body interact, specifically the musculoskeletal system.

Specialties:  Exercise Trainer

Hobbies:  Running in the foothills, playing and coaching basketball, hiking, working out, and spending time with friends and family.


Zac Heyrend, Therapy Trainer

Hometown:  Idaho Falls, Idaho

Degrees:  Associate of Art and Associate of Science (Paradise Community College) and Bachelor of Science in Biology (Boise State University)

Why Physical Therapy?:  Helping people regain the ability to take part in their sports, hobbies and passions or just helping them get back to a level of function that is required to live happily is such a rewarding experience that Zac feels he has to be a part of it!

Hobbies:  Zac is an outdoor enthusiast, he enojoys mountaineering, kayaking, and white water rafting. Zac is a professional river rat/Gambler- he worked as a professional guide on a number of rivers throughout the United States and Central America. It also brings him much joy being a husband to his wife Brittany and being a new father to his daughter.


Chad Blair, Therapy Trainer

Hometown:  Boise, Idaho

Degree:  Bachelor of Science and Exercise Science and Health (University of Idaho)

Why Physical Therapy?:  Chad played sports all the way through highschool and continues to have a love for sports. Seeing friends and family go through extensive therapy just to get back to doing what they love has sparked a passion for helping others. Becoming a part of that process is what drives him to earn his Doctorate in Physical Therapy today.

Specialties:  Chad specializes in exercise science, including proper bio mechanics for the fastest recovery time.

Hobbies:  Chad enjoys weightlifting, swimming, basketball and spending time with family and friends.


Kerby Andersen, Therapy Trainer

Hometown:  Notus, Idaho

Degree:  Bachelor of Science in Physical Activity and Health, Exercise Science (Eastern Oregon University)

Why Physical Therapy?:  Kerby began competing in athletics at a young age. As a decorated multi-sport athlete in high school and collegiate track and field sprinter and pole vaulter, Kerby has experience with a wide variety of athletic activities. An injury while in high school removed a college athletic scholarship offer and required Kerby to participate in rehabilitation with a physical therapist. During his time in rehabilitation Kerby fell in love with the science behind the human body and how it functions. Kerby’s experience with physical therapy prompted him to pursue a career in physical therapy as well as allow for a successful collegiate athletic career. Kerby has worked as a personal trainer and coaches high school track and field.

Hobbies:  Kerby enjoys most all outdoor and athletic/fitness activities and is a car, motorcycle, boat, and firearm enthusiast.


Camden Likes, Therapy Trainer

Hometown: Eagle, Idaho

Degree:  Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology (Brigham Young University-Idaho)

Why Physical Therapy?:  Physical therapy is all about helping people, so what better reason do you need to be involved with physical therapy? Cam has always loved how the human body works and how through doing the simple things, we can help the body progress to a better state. Through his years playing sports, Cam has seen first hand how PT can get someone back from their injury and back on the field. He is fascinated how PT can help you achieve the quality of life you desire.

Specialties:  Cam is a Certified strength and conditioning specialist, certified Personal Trainer and an experienced sports coach.

Hobbies:  Cam enjoys playing baseball and football, spending time with his family, exercising, building legos and takes much pleasure in being creative.


Amy Gabica, Therapy Trainer

Hometown: Middleton, Idaho

Degree:  Bachelor of Science in Human Performance, with minors in Pre-PT, Psychology and Visual Studies (The College of Idaho)

Why Physical Therapy?:  With the help of a sports medicine class in high school, Amy found physical therapy to be something she knew she would love doing for the rest of her life. Being able to help someone overcome injuries and/or pain creates a joy that she did not know was possible. Just the way the human body works, how it is capable to heal itself amazes her to the point that she wants to keep learning about it. Also playing sports in high school helped Amy want to stay within the athletic realm which lead to her career choice. Amy was very fortunate to know exactly what she wanted to do and what exactly she wanted to get her degree in once she graduated high school.

Hobbies:  Amy enjoys anything outdoors, softball, watching MMA, shooting singing, traveling, figuring out about her Basque heritage and hanging out with her family and friends.


Michelle Ellesmere-Jones, Scribe

Why Physical Therapy?:  Michelle has always been fascinated by the medical profession and amazed at how the human body can work and repair itself.  She loves the patient relationships formed through physical therapy and the appreciation people have after regaining their quality of life.  Physical therapy promotes others to stay active and healthy, which she has a strong passion for.  Michelle is currently working to go to medical school. 

Hobbies:  Michelle enjoys spending time with her friends, relaxing at her cabin in McCall, snowboarding, weekend getaways, and anything involving her two pups, Miley and Bailey.


Aimee Aulner, Billing Coordinator

Hometown:  Blackfoot, Idaho

Degree:  Idaho State University

Why Physical Therapy?:  Aimee enjoys the reward of watching and helping patients regain their strength and mobility.  Aimee is known for cheering patients up and politely correcting their exercise when needed.  Aimee will often bring in baked cookies and other sweets to the clinic for patients and staff.

Hobbies:  Aimee's hobbies include baking, running 5k marathons, playing fetch with her cat, and camping.


Emily Candau, Marketing Coordinator

Hometown:  Orange, California

Degree:  Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies- Emphasis in Interpersonal and Organizational Communication (California State University, Long Beach)

Why Physical Therapy?:  Emily has always had a passion for health and fitness, as well as meeting new people and helping others. Working in this industry allows her to be a part of it all!

Hobbies:  Emily loves spending time with her husband and enjoys activites such as hiking, spending time with her dog, camping, working out, watching movies, dancing, going to concerts, cooking and baking.


Jacklyn Chin, Patient Care Coordinator

Hometown:  Boise, Idaho

Degree:  Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and Health, with a minor in Psychology (University of Idaho)

Why Physical Therapy?:  Jackyln played nearly every sport growing up, which included many different injuries. The biggest injury led to a knee surgery and physical therapy to get her back to sports. From then on she always wanted to work in the physical therapy field. Helping people get back to activities that they love is the greatest reward in this field and she is so glad that she can be a part of it.

Hobbies:  Playing and coaching volleyball and basketball, wakeboarding, boating, fishing, hiking, and a proud soldier in the Idaho Army National Guard.


Elayne Stefani, Patient Care Coordinator

Hometown:  La Palma, California

Why Physical Therapy?:  Elayne loves working with and helping people. She loves to see the progress patients go through and hopes to return to school to become a Medical Assistant to further help people.

Hobbies:  Elayne enjoys hiking, biking camping, swimming and playing sports. She also loves spending time with her husband and two daughters, Lucia and Haylee.


Ashley Smith, Patient Care Coordinator

Hometown:  Boise, Idaho

Degrees:  Associate of Criminal Justice (College of Western Idaho) and a Bachelors of Psychology (Boise State University)

Why Physical Therapy?:  Ashley has been doing cheer, dance and gymnastics all her life and has had many injuries and two surgeries herself. She has been a returning patient to Idaho Spine & Sports PT and has seen first hand how physical therapy can change your life. Ashley loves being a part of that journey for other people.

Hobbies:  Ashley spends her time coaching competetice gymnastics, swimming and snuggling with her dog Gracie! She also loves paddle boarding, skiing, and is currently busy planning a wedding with her fiance!


Mika Duran, Clinic Administrator

Hometown:  Nampa, Idaho

Why Physical Therapy?:  Since an early age, Mika has always been captivated by the way the human body works and what we can simply do with our two hands to fix it, if there is ever a problem.  She plans on enrolling back into school next year to further her fascination and pursue her dream career in becoming a pediatric nurse.  Her favorite part of working at ISSPT is witnessing patients who came in limping and in pain and having them, in just a few short weeks, walking out with complete confidence!

Hobbies:  Mika's hobbies include hanging out with her closest friends on the weekends and holding a bible study for high school girls one night a week and young adults on another night.
