| Degenerative Disc Disease |
| |
 |
DDD refers to the changes that occur in the spine as the spine
ages. With aging, the outer lining of the disc begins to weaken, it is not
able to retain water as well and the space between the vertebrae begins
to narrow. Although this is a normal process and is generally painless,
for some this can be a source of spine pain and if severe enough can lead
to nerve compression. |
| |
|
|
| Our treatment involves stretching to improve
mobility around the spine (REPEX, traction, etc.); posture modification
and training; low impact aerobic training; and isolated strengthening of
the surrounding muscles of the spine (Stabilization strengthening, MedX,
etc.). |
|
| |
|
|
|
Physical therapy focused on restoring normal flexibility and
posture coupled with isolated back strengthening has been shown effective
in treating Degenerative Disc (Joint) Disease. |
