| Sciatica |
| |
 |
The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the
human body, about the diameter of a finger. It is formed by a convergence
of multiple nerves of the lumbar spine and travels through the buttock and
down the back of the leg. The term "sciatica" is commonly used
to describe pain felt where the sciatic nerve travels. Most sciatic pains
are actually a result of irritation in the lumbar spine and not directly
from the sciatic nerve itself.
