| Scoliosis |
| |
|
Scoliosis means curvature in Greek. This disease
causes the spine to curve laterally (to the side). Adult scoliosis is caused
by:
1) Unrecognized or untreated childhood scoliosis.
2) Asymmetric degeneration of spinal elements generally associated with
osteoporosis (porous bone), disc degeneration, compression fracture, or
a combination. Generally, this occurs in the lumbar spine and can affect
vertebral height, shape, or basic structural integrity.
3)Combination of 1 and 2. |

|
| The basic approach we use to treating scoliosis
is stretching the shortened side of the abnormal curve and strengthen the
lengthened side. Common treatments include:
McKenzie Assessment / Treatment
REPEX
Traction (Anatomotor)
MedX / Neck 4-way
Stabilization strengthening |

|
Treatment involving specific strengthening,
stretching and un-weighting have been shown to stop and often reverse the
progression of scoliosis. Treatment often results in reduced pain, improved
breathing function and better mobility. |
